During the meeting, the two countries discussed the development of economic cooperation and development agenda in Mongolia.
Finance Minister B. Javhlan highlighted the following points from the programs that are being implemented within the framework of development cooperation between the two countries.
- Requested the continuation and possible extension of the Australian Government scholarship program and to increase the number of candidates. Australia expressed its support in this regard.
- In connection with the successful implementation of Phase II of the Mineral Resources Sector Cooperation Program/AMEP/ project and its completion in June of this year, the two parties discussed and exchanged views on this matter.
- The Minister of Finance specifically asked to prioritize the strengthening of development cooperation between the two countries related to the implementation of the Rio Tinto Group's Oyutolgoi project.
- They also discussed to further increase in the number of Australian citizens coming to Mongolia within a volunteer program.
Ms. Katie Smith, the Ambassador of Australia, expressed her proposal to cooperate on the following three issues within the framework of the newly discussed development cooperation.
- Climate change
- Gender equality
- Renewable energy
Finance Minister B.Javkhlan welcomed and expressed his support to the Ambassadors proposal, and further said that Australia's experience as a mining exporter does not exceed 30% of the economy, as well as the importance of studying and introducing good practices in livestock, farming and financial markets.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries and Australia has been a good development partner of our country.
